The Student and Filmmaker Alliance (SAFA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging students to become more active with their creative community, as well as promoting research, service, and technology, mainly through film and video. As educators and filmmakers, the founders of SAFA hope to inspire students from elementary school through college level, to incorporate academics with film to either improve their academic/creative skills, explore topics of interest, or to better their community. As an integral aspect to all levels and areas of education, SAFA will advocate keeping education creative and inspirational through mobilizing, supporting, motivating, assisting, and giving a voice to students and the community. The ultimate goal of SAFA is to provide both informational material and financial aid to students.
Over a thousand sixth, seventh, and eighth graders at Burns Middle School wrote timed narrative essays from a prompt. Twenty five stories were selected as winners, now you get the opportunity to make one into a film.
Here’s how:
Create a short film based on one of the winning stories from the writing assessment.
Come to the Story Starter Film Competition Kickoff on February 17, 2011, at 6:00 to find out information about the competition and randomly select one of the winning stories as the basis of your film.
The due date for the films is Friday, March 9th, at 6:00 at Satori.
BMS students will view the films and vote on their favorite student writer and film team. Films will also be sent to a panel of local arts, film, and education judges to select a first, second, and third place winner.
All winners will receive cash prizes during a public screening at Bernheim Hall on April 10th.
If you would like any additional information about this competition or SAFA please view our website, www.safafilm.org, or email us at mobile.safa@gmail.com
PLEASE INVITE OTHERS TO THIS EVENT! Hope to see you there!
